SIGH. This is one of the things that really frustrate me when speaking with APQ's, which is their apparent problem to understand how "Title IX" applied to us. Your statements here show that you don't understand it correctly.
Once again. To use its full name, it's "Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972" which prohibits discrimination based on sex at school which receive federal funding. Its not correct to say that "all the other fraternities were exempt". Only the SOCIAL Fraternities and Sororities were exempt. We are not and never have been a "Social" fraternity. We, along with the honor, professional, and recognition fraternities, were affected by this. And as far as I know, all of the honor, professional, and recognition Greek Letter Organizations are co-ed. In earlier email discussion about this issue, I gave a real example of an all-male honor society at a school that was sued under Title IX over their refusal to go co-ed. They lost that case and were kicked off campus because of it, and only allowed back on as an official organization when they finally went co-ed. So most definetly, APO chapters could have been sued over Title IX and had the fraternity not voted (there was n!

reason to add the quotes), we would have faced the very real threat of loosing chapters.
I recommend that those who want to learn more about this get a copy of the History CD available from the National Office and read the section on Women and APO. It goes into depth about this matter.
That's all I have to say on this matter.
