I check Ebay about twice a week and also read a Fraternity Pin group on
ebay...
Not everything that is offered on Ebay that has the fraternity on it is
equal in my desire to win it or protect it from non members.
I personally use a scale from -1 to 10 with zero being wouldn't put in a
bid at any price and 10 being I'd call the National office to see if they
would help bid...
Alpha Phi Omega stamper kits: -1 One person offers these repeatedly from
an inexhausable stock.
Alpha Phi Omega lettered t-shirt or sweatshirt: 0.
Anyone can make these, I personally own enough
Alpha Phi Omega event T-shirts: 1-4. Depends on how close the event was to
me in time and location.
APO pins: 2-7. The high end is anything significantly different than our
current in either size, or type of backing attachment. For a brtoherhood
pin from the 50s that is half the size of our current and has a screwback,
I'd definately bid. The current brother and pledge pins, I don't feel the
need to rescue. The Pledge pins from the first 10 years of APO (which are
a shield divided vertically with yellow on one side and blue on the other)
would be a 10.
Alpha Phi Omega as a fraternity is probably the least
stressed over its pins of any of the Greeks I've seen. One NPC sorority
apparently sued to keep a sister from being buried with hers.
APO Patches: There are only really three patches I've seen,
1) The pin on a circular patch (normally used as a temp pocket parth for
BSA uniforms)
2) The crest on a patch just larger than the crest
3) The strip patches for the jamborees since '85.
I have a personal interest in getting one of the patches for each
Jamboree, but thats all. The first two types of patches rate 2-3, the
Jamboree 6-7.
APO Membership certificates/brotherhood card. 7-8. Try to contact chapter
if possible, otherwise I'm interested for myself.
APO Charters/rechartering certificates. 10 *and* contact the national
office. (If I ended up buying it I'd donate it to the national office and
take the purchase price as a deduction)
These are for things I've seen more than once. I'd never seen paddles
before, but Rashid beat me to the annoucement. They would be an 8 *and*
contact chapter/chair/RD...
Also, for things in the mid-range I try not to bid against other
brothers...
As I said these are personal, but I'm interested in your opinion...
