[APO-L] Blood Battles

I've been following in the news on google the blood battles between Ohio
State and Michigan and between Clemson and U of South Carolina. These
appear to be blood docation competitions within a fixed length of time to
determine which campus will give more blood. While I don't know the
particulars (ungrad donors only, all students, all associated, anyone who
walks off of street), I still think these would be great to do. It doesn't
have to be associated with a football game, but seems to resonate best
there. For basketball, maybe Kentucky vs Louisville or vs Indiana would be
a good one...
Is there any writeups on how these two current blood battles are done?
