things to accomplish.

But instead of addressing all issues I can only address the ones
that are a priority.

"Issue One: The Race Card"

What was said-----> "But they what they don't seem to understand
is that the reason that we are coed is because we don't fall under
the sames category as SOCIAL GREEKS. When they passed title 9 that
affected A-Phi-O as a national fraternity. Its not that the
national office is against the all male chapters at the HBCU's
is that they are following a federal mandate. So don't try to pull
that race card."

Title VI only affected institutions that where federally
funded. Alpha Phi Omega never has been federally funded. There
are other organizations that have handled this "must be coed"
differently than Alpha Phi Omega. What they do is allow any
membership to come into their ranks. There are coed service
sororities. Alpha Phi Omega does not desire the choice to be
amongst the students for fear that they may not desire female
membership. Alpha Phi Omega discourages any group that does not
conform to a Campus D E M O G R A P H I C S that is simular to the
campus. For instance. If you have a campus with a huge population,
you might have 35,000 students with 5,000 black students, 1000
hispanics. Most of the time, black crowds are that because they
have diffeerent interest than white people. If there was a
bond with 25 black men within that 5,000, Alpha Phi Omega will
not accept them unless they go get black females and white and
hispanics males and females. (Of Course this is not just black
males). I've seen people turned away from chapter creation because
of their group's demographics. Not because they will get into
trouble with the federal goverment. Because they will not be
approved by the National Board. Now how does race play into that?
Let's look at that senario above. You use to be able to create a
chapter on campus with the interested personel that applys, now with
most of the campuses you guarantee that each major campus will have
white people in it. I do not know if that was the goal or not the
goal. But that is what the rule changes does. I never had a
problem with having white people in a chapter that I'm apart of, but
why do I have to purposely pick people that I have nothing in common
with to become a part of my group, knowing that they are not going
to like or be apart of what I do. For instance: Tennessee State
University has 30 percent white people, and 70% black, however I
went to a Tenn State University road game and didn't seen any white
people there. The point is that cultures do not often move in the
same circles. Every now and then they do. With a black person
moving out into to white group or a India person moving into a white
group. But you very seldom see a white person moving into a black
circle. I'm not saying that the way Alpha Phi Omega is progressing
it is shaping up to become a white culture only organization.
Because I recognize that Alpha Phi Omega have several other cultures
in it, and they are whole, predominatly oneside. But let say San
francisco State University is predominately Asian, but the campus is
predominately White. The ruling would guarantee that the chapter be
predominately white if the chapter ever become inactive.

At this point, I have not heard of any interest group of individuals
that are mostly black men, that Alpha Phi Omega has accepted has a
petitioning group and then chapter since 1986.

What was said----->APO is a diverse organization. We accept all,
regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, etc. My chapter
is a good illustration of this. We have black, white, hispanic,
asian, jewish, indian, etc members in our chapter. So don't
throw 'diversity' into the face of APO. It won't work.

JayBEE:
Have you been to any of the cultural events within any of those
races or have you generally been to things that you like? I go back
to something that I know you didn't understand. I went to school on
a campus that basically looked white and black. And later I found
out that there were several hundred asian, hispanic and a host of
other nationalities on that same campus. 27 that It was. I began
to realize that asians and hispanics have lives too. Outside of my
world. They have to have a place of worship, and a place to
entertain themselves. A place beyond my vison. Because they meet
each other. And marry each other. My point is that everybody has a
world that doesn't interest you. People are borned into
these worlds. These worlds exist in front of you but you still may
not see them. It's great to have racial diversity, but it is also
great to have everybody doing what everybody wants to do within a
culture as well. Yes we can have diversity at the level as we do
within a chapter, but why don't we trust a individual group to have
chapter of their own. Especially while they have more incommon
amoungst themselves than we would ever have with them.
