I feel the need to clarify this.

The legislation proposed by Mr. Vehlow would make conviction of a
felony required before an expulsion could happen, not just any crime.
A misdemeanor would not qualify.

There are some possible unintended consequences of passing this
legislation.  Someone could commit a crime (such as assault on a
fellow Brother) and plead down to a misdemeanor charge.  Another
example would be that someone could be convicted of hazing in a state
where hazing is only a misdemeanor, as it is in many states.  In
either of these cases, the Fraternity would be barred from expelling
the convicted person.
