Greetings my brothers,
As we continue in this struggle, I can only say that I am glad that the
action taken against Bro. Joel Bryant is only temporary. His commitment to
the frat is legendary and without question the real brothers need his spirit
to keep them motivated and on course. As I'm sure you all can ascertain, the
response was written in a language to remind everyone (all the black
brothers), that it is THEY not US who run APO and that if you don't do what
they say....like they say....you'll get blown out of the water! (In the
immortal words of Past National President, Stan Carpenter in his response to
the Black Caucus of Alpha Phi Omega, National Convention 1980!) Nothing has
changed in 25 years...same plantation mentality. Only worse now because it
has almost annihilated the almost 60 black chapters that once stood tall and
proud on campuses all over America.
I still believe in the spirit of our brotherhood. It is that brotherly
love that is our glue. I do however question the wisdom in continuing to
seek permission and approval from the National Organization of Alpha Phi
Omega, for us to self-actualize, as a brotherhood....in a country where our
ancestors have already shown us through their on struggles and
triumphs....how to be free. I'm not sure what real gains can be made
through Bro. Bryant's ordeal, except that we might one day have the courage
and forsight to forge ahead and claim the victory that is already ours for
the taking.
The Bible says:"As a man thinketh...so is he". We think we have to
subjected to the whims of those who would seek to ignore our cries...but we
don't. We think that our glory days are behind us...but they don't have to
be...unless that's what we settle for. The "standard of manhood" that once
was our mantra...has faded into our memories of what Alpha Phi Omega "used"
to be. ....it has not withstood the "test of time"...except within our
hearts.
I remain fully supportive of any "mass" action by the "real men" of
Alpha Phi Omega...that would ensure a fraternal environment that I would be
proud for my "13" year old son to aspire to be a part of. Regardless of the
colors or the covering...it is the united spirit within us that makes us who
we are!
Let brotherly love continue...
