Between hiking the initial fee and adopting my proposal to send the T+T by
email to those who want it, I predict a windfall for the fraternity.

If I had known that there were proposals to alter fees, I would've suggested
this: a one-time option on initiation for an active to become a life member
for $40. Let's do the math: There's what- 30,000 life members or so? Out of
a fraterinty pushing 300,000, and almost half of which were initiated after
1980, which may be when Life membership was activated, i think? If 20% of
initiates sign up for life membership each year- 2/3 at $50 and 1/3 at $100,
and under this proposal, over half would opt to sign up at $40 with 10%
doing it later on at $50 and 10% at $100, let's work this out:

Based on 1/2 of the approximate AAMD of 15000 annually: (7500 pledges):

.50x7500x$40 + .10x7500x$50 + .10x7500x$100 = $150,000 + $37,500 + $75,000
=$262,500 annually

vs.

.20 x 7500 x (2/3x$50 + 1/3x$100) = .20x7500x$67= $100,500.

An approximate projected gross gain of $162,000 annually for life
membership.

Encourage these new lifers to get the T+T by email, and the savings should
put the net gain for life members at $150,000, say.

This is in addition to the savings suipposedly realized by the existing fee
shift/hike proposals.

Plus the other potential long-term benefits: more life members = more
participatory alums down the road = better service and better alum assoc =
better resopurces to chapters = possible better rush, recruitment and
retention = mo' money for the national org.

It's not even N'Orleenz yet and I'm already starting on legislation for
2004! :)
