Just some points to consider....
What is not being factored in is the time and effort
expended simply trying to process AAMDs. Yeah, I know
all that data just gets loaded into a computer, but
that still takes staff hours. And then there is the
amount of effort taken just trying to make sure that
all chapters submit them on-time, in the right amount.
So, while you think that the fraternity is coming out
ahead with this new math, point of fact is that it's
actually helping to even things out -- or at least
make it possible to help realign staff to the most
efficient activities.
Of course, you can argue that there are fewer students
and fewer chapters, but that just makes the case all
that much more poignant... less revenue per student to
support the same number of staff performing the tasks
associated with membership management.
And as to the concept of "Students = Poor" -- can we
then assume that APO is simply the "Fraternity of the
Poor"? That our membership is, in part, artificially
inflated because we are the bargain basement of the
fraternity world?
Of course, then there is concept of the Chapter
Dues... I would think that most of the resistance to
National Dues increases would be seen to impinge upon
the revenue stream of the individual chapters.
Part of my concern with any of the associated
legislation would be how much more will APO rely on
Life Membership Dues -- and will we see an increase in
Life Membership Dues in the future for operations?? Or
will T&T become a fee based newsletter for alumni
later down the road....
Hmmmmm... and one last little thing. If AAMDs are
eliminated, then how are we to know which chapters are
"in good standing" for voting priviledges in
convention situations?
