As a state employee (Indiana), I, too, pay taxes. Now, I can often times
get a government room rate, but I still pay taxes on that as well.
I doubt (though can't speak with any certainty) that you can avoid paying
the tax on the hotel room. I don't believe it's a sales tax (there may be
one, but I can't say for sure.)
Also, I don't believe that as *individuals* we are tax exempt, and because
we as *individuals* are using the rooms, etc. we bear the brunt of paying
the taxes.
The National Fraternity may be exempt from paying taxes on rooms that it
uses in the conduct of its meetings (banquet, committee rooms, etc.) but my
guess is that since they aren't paying for the rleeping ooms (we are), there
is no tax break.
