That was a very good explaination of the <BR>
decision process that took place at the <BR>
convention. I can see how debates on the <BR>
subject can be very time consuming. I would <BR>
imagine that if there were as many "for" on the <BR>
floor as there were "against" the issue, the <BR>
debate would probably be longer at that <BR>
convention. I've noticed that the last two <BR>
conventions were Minnesota and Philadelphia, <BR>
(not saying that no all male chapter was in <BR>
attendence at either), but the amount in <BR>
attendence is really lopsided in comparison to <BR>
the amount of people that would be actually for <BR>
the single gender issue. Meaning if there was <BR>
an 8 hour debate on the floor. That small <BR>
amount of backers must have put up very <BR>
compelling arguments.<BR>

However at this point, after years of asking <BR>
and trying, you may have achieve the total <BR>
undergraduate loss of hope and developed <BR>
individual content that this organization will <BR>
only allow certain type of groups exist in <BR>
Alpha Phi Omega. While reviewing some of the <BR>
statements made against the idea of letting any <BR>
group join, I began see inside the people that <BR>
exist in Alpha Phi Omega today. In some people <BR>
I saw a little understanding and comprise, <BR>
while others were very stern and unwavering. <BR>
As though they were not about to let anything <BR>
change the paradise they've been able to <BR>
achieve, sort of speak. As though, if they <BR>
choose to allow a single gender group in, then <BR>
the walls of what is Coed Alpha Phi Omega will <BR>
come tumbling down. Any individual that fits <BR>
that description can rest assure that Coed <BR>
Alpha Phi Omega is here to stay and will <BR>
continue to be a viable and defined part of the <BR>
organization we know as Alpha Phi Omega.<BR>

I know some individuals may look upon giving <BR>
single gender groups this particular allowance <BR>
as a blessing given by Alpha Phi Omega to go <BR>
ahead and discriminate. These individuals feel <BR>
that letting a single gender chapter exist or <BR>
be created, is letting a group discriminate.<BR>
This is an argument that has such a bad taste <BR>
to it that at first glance, it sounds like it <BR>
has to be stop. However, single gender groups <BR>
are designed and display a nature that is <BR>
probably unattractive to the opposite sex. <BR>
They exist as a single entity and has many <BR>
mascline/feminine ways. While some of these <BR>
groups have developed a identity that their <BR>
campus recognize, they would have to make an <BR>
effort to change themselves and who they've <BR>
become, to become an attractive entity toward <BR>
the opposite sex, and away from other <BR>
established single gender organizations. Not <BR>
saying that it is not impossible, because many <BR>
potentional members can have hidden agendas or <BR>
goals. However I'm pretty certain that they do <BR>
not have to discriminate at all. <BR>

Using the argument that single gender groups <BR>
will be discriminating so they can't be a group <BR>
of Alpha Phi Omega is a discriminatory action <BR>
in itself. And I believe discrimation <BR>
shouldn't be an act to cure discrimation. To <BR>
me the organization of Alpha Phi Omega should <BR>
not discriminate in no way shape form or <BR>
fashion. And any talk on what a group should <BR>
be like should be remove from any <BR>
documentation, literature, or understanding <BR>
within Alpha Phi Omega period. <BR>

Not all coed organizations have an <BR>
instantaneous love for a coed idea. I mean <BR>
Alpha Phi Omega may be a large organization, <BR>
but there is way more people in single gender <BR>
organizations than there is in Alpha Phi <BR>
Omega. I found a comment about another <BR>
organization that showed some adjusting that <BR>
had to be done. I saw on a greek forum <BR>
sometime ago and I had to copy it.<BR>

Delta Omicron Professional Music Fraternity <BR>
Use to be a sorority.<BR>

DewGirl: I am a member of a co-ed fraternity, <BR>
and personally, I'm not a fan of the switch (it <BR>
was a sorority when I pledged, we had co-ed <BR>
rammed down our throats) I absolutely love my <BR>
sorority, as I still call it, (I'd better, I'm <BR>
the president of it!) but I am displeased with <BR>
some of the decisions made from above. Some of <BR>
you may remember my dillemma from way back when <BR>
on the boards, so you know. Well, I'll be much <BR>
more discreet now than I was then, but I am<BR>
not pleased with it. I can see how it can have <BR>
its postive aspects but...for me it has only <BR>
created negatives. We have 1 male member out <BR>
of 27, who truly is a wonderful guy, and he is <BR>
my "brother". However, it creates some<BR>
awkwardness. First off, it makes <BR>
socials/mixers with other groups difficult. <BR>
With the exception of our unofficial <BR>
brother fraternity, we have had very little <BR>
interaction with other greeks. Since we are not <BR>
encompassed in NPC or IFC, they seem to want <BR>
little to do with us, despite our attempts. We <BR>
are treated as "second rate greeks". We have <BR>
even had members of other greek orgs on campus <BR>
come up to us and harrass us because "You are <BR>
not real greeks (excuse me???) so quit playing <BR>
pretend". Just because my organization is co-ed <BR>
does not mean we are not *real* greeks<BR>
