Really? I am only aware of 2 splinter groups from APO. And I'd hardly call them "national fraternities" (a handful of chapters at most do not a 'national fraternity' make imo).
I don't claim to fully understand the cause of this 'frustration'. But some of what I read (and not just here) makes me think that part of it has been an instance in following customs and traditions that are no longer in favor in the fraternity world at large. Many, many practices that were accepted and widespread back in 'the old days' are now frowned upon. APO is not the only organization I am involved in which has had to go thru similiar issues. For many old times and certain traditionalist, its hard. But people need to be open minded and learn to move forward. What some see as an attempt at 'making our lives hell' could just be trying to get groups to follow new policies enacted by their own peers (ie other active brothers).
Remember. Our National Officers are elected by the voting delegates at the National Convention. The National Board acts upon policies decided by these voting delegates. Active Brothers make up the vast majority of the voting delegates. To make it seem as those these policies are something dreamed up by alumni Brothers (regardless of whether they became Brothers by Pledging or as an Advisor) out to 'get you' seems a bit much.
