Chenda,
The Alpha Beta Chapter at Penn State does a
"Cut-A-Thon" where a local hair stylist will come and
spend a few hours (usually it was done from 10-6)
doing haircuts for $5, and all of that money is
donated to a charity. This doesn't include a shampoo
and dry either. And the stylist is usually someone
that a member of the chapter goes to for their own
styling/haircuts on a regular basis.
The chapter usually does this to raise money for
Penn State's Dance Marathon, which raises money for
the Four Diamonds Fund which pays for treatment and
research for Childhood Cancers at the Hershey Medical
Center in Hershey, PA. The money raised for the Four
Diamonds Fund pays for everything for the treatment of
the children so that there is no financial burden for
the families afflicted. Dance Marathon
(affectionately referred to on campus as THON) raises
almost 80% of the yearly operating budget for the Four
Diamonds fund. For more information on THON and the
