Epsilon Mu (UMCP) is having a decent rush this semester, so far. This is due to the
fact that we have Brothers who are serious about getting more people involved with
APO, either directly as Pledges or indirectly through working with us on Service
projects. This helps us get people who don't know about us.
A few things about EM's Rush tactics:
1.) GENERAL: We do not require any Rushees to attend service projects, but we
require BROTHERS to attend as many rush events as possible, and that is one of the
factors we have in choosing Big Brothers for Pledges. People have been known to
just appear at our Induction Ceremonies and have become some of the most influencial
people in our Chapter.
2.) WEBPAGE: Our webpage is continually being updated, as information becomes
available. (check out our site at http://apoem.capu.net and leave a message!) This
includes Fellowship events, Service Projects, Rush info meetings, etc, etc.
3.) LISTSERVS: If your school uses them, USE LISTSERVS! Hit up any honors
departments, societies, or other such lists. We had a LOT of interest in APO
through them and there's one more part of this that we use...Have your Membership
VP/Rush Chair/whatever you call that position, CALL THEM and talk to them!
4.) FLYERS: We use these, yes, however, our goal with flyers is that we do not
use full sheets, only HALF sheets. our goals with these half-sheets are two-fold:
a.) RUSH! and b.) To get our name out there. Once people know who we are, we can
then go ahead and say "yeah, we're APO, we do service, blah, blah, blah"
Additionally, these sheets contain our entire rush schedule, with events, dates,
times, when ceremonies are, etc.
5.) INCENTIVES: Something we're working on in EM is having an incentive for
Brothers. Offer an incentive to either the Brother who brings in the most pledges
or for the Chapter for every oh...10 pledges they bring in or something similar.
6.) FOOD!!!: Derek, I know it sounds to other people that free food is
bribery, but you know what? Sometimes it takes that extra step to get those few
people who are interested. FOOD IS GOOD! And hey, if you have extra (chips, soda,
etc.), you can bring them to Chapter meetings and have people eat there.
I hope this helps you and other Chapters. If you have any questions in regards to
EM's rush, please email me back! =)
