ADI (VCU) seems to be having somewhat of a lackluster rush lately as well. I am
aware that nationally, the membership numbers are down since last year. Of
course, there are probably several factors.
Traditionally, VCU's rush has been a series of rush, "Information Meetings,"
(about 4-5 or so), held on weekday nights at around 7pm (some have been as late
as 10pm, although not this semester). There have been service projects, as the
chapter does require a minimum of 5 service hours in order to be invited to
induction (to demonstrate that the individual is truly interested in APO). But
the service projects are not necessarily posted on flyers, they are announced at
the information meetings.
I have attempted to persuade our rush chair and other brothers to do advertise
some more interesting and exciting friendship-type projects for rush, as an,
"Information Meeting - 7pm" does not appear to be attracting more than about 2-3
people at a time. I have also suggested free food at rush events to bring more
people in the door, but this usually gets shot down quickly because they say it
is simple bribery to get people to listen to us and, "they don't want to stoop
down to that level." Nevertheless, these same people that shoot down ideas are
not coming up with any better ones, and it seems as if the status quo remains.
Are there any chapters out there that continue to have a very effective rush,
and what exactly are you doing (right, or wrong)?
