Hello to all from Colfax, Iowa. This is day 4 of
RAGBRAI, and also the
day that I dedicated to Alpha
Phi Omega in honor of the 75th anniversary
- today
I'm doing "75 (miles, that is - plus about 8 extra)
for the
75th". I've gotten over $100 in pledges for
APO's national leadership
development program, plus
I'm wearing a shirt from this year's Section
84
conference at Johns Hopkins University. Last night I
stayed at the
home of Randy and Joyce Kopecky, two
alums from Omicron chapter at the
University of Iowa.
A real meal, a real bed, a real shower, plus
clean
clothes -- what a treat!!

The best news today is that I'm still
riding -- after
breaking my bike frame on Monday, and getting a one
day
loaner from Trek yesterday, the Schwinn reps
loaned me a Schwinn Super
Sport to ride through
Friday, when Trek will loan me another bike.
Almost
makes me want to buy a new bike from either company,
but I should
be able to get a new frame under warranty
from Raleigh.

If you've seen
the weather, you'll know that Iowa's
been getting wet -- good for
farmers, not so good for
bikers. Plus we had some hail this morning to
make
the ride extra special. But that's what comes with
RAGBRAI -- in
addition to sun, wind, hills and bike
repairs. On the plus side, there's
also pork chops,
sweet corn, church pies, church suppers, beer,
cookies
and Gatorade. To say that I'm here to lose weight
would be an
outright lie, so I won't try to kid anyone!

All for now -- you can see
more RAGBRAI news at the
Des Moines Register site (below) or at
www.RAGRBAI.org

PS - Internet access has
been provided by a bus with
a high-speed uplink that's been along the
route the
last few days. High-tech in the heartland!
