Brothers,
We stand for leadership, friendship, and service...with this "new" policy
from the BSA, have these principles been compromised? I do not believe so.
I cannot see where the policies of one organization necessarily affect
another. Link or no link.
There are numerous organizations throghout the world that do not have the
same beliefs or principles as we do? Are we to believe that the XYZ
Association has influence upon us?
I see that this is a major issue with some Brothers. May I suggest taking
this issue out of the convention/legislation arena (where i believe it does
not belong) and puting it in the service arena (where our principles and
strentghs as a fraterntiy are proven time and time again) if you feel that
the issue needs to be addressed. Create service projects which address the
issue of homosexuality and acceptance in society. Increase awareness, etc.
In my opinion, you are not going to change the minds of a Council if you
can't change the opinions of society.
In my opinion, AphiO has no place "slapping the BSA on the wrist", or any
other organization for that matter. However, AphiO is known on numerous
campuses for increasing community awareness regarding many issues facing
society.
If you want to attack the BSA, do so indirectly by increasing awareness. A
formal declaration can really do nothing. (Anyway, who would really know
about a formal declaration...Brothers and possibly the council...would that
really change the minds of the thousands - possibly millions - of scouts
that would never even hear about it?)
In other words, I belive that AphiO cannot issue anykind of declaration
stating that the BSA's policies are "bad". If you want the fraternity to
take action, have your chapter tackle the issue, not the BSA.
Just a thought...
In LFS,
