Just depends on several factors I guess. Looking back,
I was running TWO large molecular minimizations on
that particular SGI I was working on, so that could
have slowed it down. On another system on our same
network, it took about 15 seconds to access just now.
However, seeing as how these are state of the art
networks, that 15 seconds can translate into a minute
or more *EASILY* for the majority of internet users
(those with standard telephone modems).
The general rule I follow when designing web pages is
to design for a 28.8 KBPS speed, because that is what
most people view the web with. Even though most
schools are networked with fast connections, there are
still lots of students living off campus that may not
have these same privileges, and are using standard
telephone modems.
