Alpha Phi Omega International Philippines, Incorporated, Service Fraternity
and Sorority successfully held its 20th national biennial convention on May
7-9, 1999, at the Green Heights Convention Center in Davao City on the
southern Philippine island of Mindanao. More than 600 members from local
collegiate chapters and alumni associations as well as foreign APO
organizations participated. Of those participants, some 370 were official
voting delegates.
The three-day event meant to ratify proposed changes to the national
constitution and bylaws. However, because time ran out, the constitutional
convention was postponed. Also tabled for deliberation by the incoming
national executive board was the site of the 2001 convention.
Outgoing national president Brod Engr. Mariano "Marnie" R. Alquiza and the
1997-1999 NEB will pass the leadership torch for developmental years
1999-2001 on June 1, 1999.
Eighteen candidates-at-large paid PhP5,000 each to become eligible for
election into the "Magic 9" spots. Tallied votes were as follows (from
highest to lowest):
