I have some further information for persons and chapters interested in helping
out.
The United Way has set up a fund for donations to go towards victims of the
tragedy:

Safeway stores in the area have also started collecting money, and have
apparently already kicked in $10,000 themselves. I'm not sure how to donate to
them other than by walking it down yourself. I'll let you know if I hear
anything else.
Also, a local tv station has set up a place on their website where you can write
messages of sympathy and support for the victims and the station will forward
