We just revised out bylaws on this issue. It was unclear how we were
supposed to handle it, and we ended up having an officer take a leave
of absence from the E-Board, then resign. We didn't want to have it
unclear the next time.
In our chapter, the President immediately appoints an acting Officer,
and schedules an election. Nominations are accepted at the 1st meeting
following, and elections are held the following meeting.
We also have a line of succession defined for the President. If the
President leaves office, it goes to the VPS, then the VPM. I would
expect that if the President resigned, then the VPS would become
president, and schedule elections for a new VPS.
