Some ideas for livening up meetings:
1) Food. Have snack signups. Bring munchies and soda (and anything else
within reason for brothers with unusual needs if you can). Chocolate chip
cookies go over REALLY well!
2) Officers who are reporting: include a silly comic strip or something
brief and cute (like a skit) between reports.
3) Mock awards.
Suggested topics:
*Silliest thing said in the office this week (example of one I could have
earned years ago as an undergrad - a discussion of mixed drinks was
happening, and someone was describing an orgasm, which is a mixed drink with
milk in it - I'm allergic to milk, so without thinking, I said "Oh, I can't
have those, I'm allergic." It was a long time before I heard the end of
that, and something like that makes a great gag award).
*Brother/pledge with the goofiest injury from a party or service project
this past weekend
*Brother/pledge who did the most embarassing [fill in the blank] at
[whatever] party
In short, topical and brief gag awards, with mock certificates, can liven
things up. You needn't have them every week, and you needn't have the same
ones every week. The intent is to create bonding and bring a little levity,
no more than that. Important note - don't spend too much meeting time giving
them out; and try to make sure that you are not offending the target of the
award before issuing it. Obviously, you want to try to use judgment...
4) Some chapters have a position called "court jester" or "joke master" or
some such office, whose primary responsibility is to bring some humor into
meetings. Again, the standard warnings about good judgment apply...
And again with my standard disclaimer: The opinions I am expressing here are
mine and mine alone, and have no official association with the fraternity.
