The Special Olympics WORLD Games are coming to Raleigh, NC (and surrounding
areas) this summer from June 26 through July 4th and they need thousands of
volunteers! Internationally, this is the largest sporting event in 1999.
APO group-volunteer day is June 26 and we want you to join us.
We will be working the first 2 shifts (morning & afternoon) and having a
social event that night. Housing will be provided by brothers in the area as
hotels are in EXTREMELY short supply for the event.
To volunteer,
1. Fill out the form at the "Region III Service Project" link on the Region
III home page: http://www.odu.edu/~src/APhiO/Region3/
2. Fill out the Special Olympics Volunteer application (there is a link on
the form from #1.) It is 8 pages long.
3. Return both to me, Cindy Turner, by snail mail or bring them to the
Section 80 conference February 26-28.
4. All applications are due by the end of February.
Just a few comments: yes, you have to fill out an application to volunteer,
if you are unsure you will be able to participate, but want to, go ahead &
fill out the application. There is a space on the APO-specific form to
comment on that. Also, the Special Olympics needs volunteers throughout the
rest of the week, sign up for the shifts you want. We may be able to find
housing for those volunteering throughout the week.
Hope to see you in June!
