Along the same lines as Rich's comments - I have an amendment to REV's
idea....

I've been following this web-cam argument and have to say I totally agree with
both sides. I think it would be really neat to be able to go to a web site
and see what's going on at the National Convention... but on the other hand -
is it really worth all that time, effort, and money?

Here's a slight change to the idea that may just save us all the trouble of
having a "dedicated" (read in - really expensive) connection.

Does the video feed have to be live?

Everyone here seems to agree that the publicity would be great if people could
see what a great time they were missing at a National Convention by being able
to see it happening on the web. However, everyone also seems to have issues
about the costs, and especially the privacy issue on the legislative floor.

Just like a photographer takes a record of the convention - why not have
someone running around with a digital camera? Take some video shots of the
legislative floor (when sensitive issues are not being discussed), flim the
banquets (I personally would love to see a video of the napkin ring), take
some random shots down hallways, in the store, etc. etc. etc.
Once these videos are saved - we could just upload them to the convention web
site. Anyone accessing the site can see what's going on - much like here on
APO-L with the convention updates... these e-mail updates on legislation are
not "as it happens", but still, people want to hear them.
It is definitely a whole lot easier - and cheaper - to dial in to the web site
server and update the site than to keep a constant connection.

What do you all think? I personally would do it. (and hey - I'm in a
position to be planning for it - so let me know if you think it's a good idea)
