Brothers,
It all began with Brother Turner's play-by-play report on
Hurricane Bonnie and his call to all chapters for support, and a little
Petitioning Group in the southern plains answering his call.
On behalf of my fellow brothers of the recently rechartered Beta
Pi Chapter at University of Tulsa, I wish to announce the results of our
drive to aid victims of this year's hurricane season. Our project,
dubbed "Golden Hurricane Relief" consisted of a silent auction conducted
over four days and resulted in our raising close to nine hundred dollars
($900.00), which we are donating to the American Red Cross Disaster
Relief Fund.
I wish to give a special thanks to the following brothers:
Lauren Kelley (project chair), Morgan Paulus and Erika Hefter for
organizing, advertising, and implementing the project. To the rest of
the brothers for assisting them when and where needed. To the Red Cross
for their advice and support. And thanks to the Tulsa Area businesses
for donating the goods which were auctioned off.
This has been Beta Pi's largest and most successful service
project to date. While $900.00 may be just a drop in the bucket
compared to the billions of dollars in damage (and not to mention lives
lost) that these storms do, every little bit helps! ...and we are just
one chapter. Just think of the possibilities if several or all chapters
participated in the disaster relief effort.
Leadership, Friendship, Service,
Phil Dore
