One thing that has worked for us is to have the pledge meeting at 6 pm and
the active meeting at 7:30 pm in close proximity to each other. We time
it so that the active meeting starts right after the pledge meeting end.
That way, all of the pledges come over to the active meeting, hear
announcements and the service report (which is always first) as sort of a
joint meeting. Then, they can leave or stay. This also increases
brotherhood between the pledge class and active body, which is
particularly useful if you have a lot of pledges and it's hard to get to
know everybody.
