Somebody, Hawkeye, I think it was stated that the history has always been=
 the
same. That's why I think you should know what some of you may not have k=
nown.
The history is the background of the organization. Changing it is like
covering your tracks. Because, you give it to people who may never know =
how
it sang.

I want to conduct a poll and please send it to me and I will display resu=
lts. =

Which rendition should we keep? I said "should" because I know that the=
re is
still don't believe is the heritage of this organization. If they did, no=
t a
word spoken by FRANK REED HORTON to himself, would have changed. You wou=
ld
not change the red-letters in the bible to suit what you believe in, woul=
d
you? Who knows? I would love to see earlier manuals. When did our hist=
ory
start changing and what did Mr. Horton really say?

DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR, I served as an ensign in the United States Na=
vy
aboard a minesweeper in the North Sea. Our ship and its partner exploded =
more
than 1,000 magnetic mines. My law school background at Boston University =
led
to my appointment to try court-martial cases in our Division. When we rea=
ched
ports some of the sailors ran wild. Many court-martial cases resulted. I =
saw
young boys in their teens getting into trouble.

Because of these experiences, I made a firm resolution within myself that=
 if I
returned alive I would try to do two things and do them with all my power=
:
First, do my best to help young people get the right start in life, by ho=
lding
up before them a "standard of manhood" that would withstand the test of t=
ime!
Second and just as important, try to help the nations of the world settle=

their disputes in a more sensible and legal manner than by war.

It is the FIRST WORLD WAR. A young naval attorney stands in the the court=
room
listening as, one after another, there unfolds before his eyes, the sad s=
tory
of Americans sailors who had gotten into trouble while on leave in a fore=
ign
port. For many of them, it means the loss of precious civil rights.

Listening to their stories, this naval officer makes a firm resolution t=
o
himself:

------If I return alive to the United States, I will do my utmost to help=

------young men get the right start in life, by holding before them a "
------standard of manhood" that will withstand the test of time.

He also resolves to do all that he can to help the nations of the world s=
ettle
their disputes by means other than war:

------I had been learning, at the Boston University Law School, how to
------help people settle their differences in a just and legal manner. =

------Now I was thrown into a war, where nations where resolving their
------differences by killing each other. It all seemed so senseless.
------There must be a better way to resolve international differences.

Please don't ignore these changes. Or don't say that "So what, the histo=
ry
doesn't make that much of a difference" =

Thank you for your considerations

Jesse
