There are quite a few that change the words. Maybe not near a majority,
but definitely not a small minority either. I was not on the floor in
Phoenix, but I recall that in Dallas at least a third supported the
change. You also have a large number of mostly female chapters that sing
"men of" and nearly break out laughing every time. :)
I don't think that what the national board has proposed - making both
"true to" and "men of" officially acceptable - is a good solution. The
Toast Song is a song of unity... if we have a choice of what words to
sing, that is OK on the chapter level (where it just ratifies current
practice), but then what will we sing when we get together? We don't
want 1000 people saying "men of" and 1000 people saying "true to." It
should be one or the other.
For the record, I think "true to" is more meaningful than "men of," and is
more appropriate given the present membership of the fraternity, the
majority of whom cannot be described as "men." :)
