I think we need to know more about which Athena (as opposed to Media
Lab) users will be using this, and what they want to do with it. The
applications (animations, simulations, research) seem to be things
that require a lot of disk space themselves, and it's unclear that
many Athena users would be able to fit such stuff into their quota.

If it's in the sipb AFS cell, and going to be available for general
use, it would almost certainly have to be readable by system:anyuser,
which might be taken as a violation of the redistribution conditions.
