Several minutes after the last "Tape coordinator is idle" message in
backup.920706, the backup and butc processes were still running.
warlord suggested how to proceed at this point (this was after the
"Finished doing dump sipb.full_2 successfully" message). Specifically,
I typed C-c twice (to backup.pl), which gave the messages (in order)
"Killing dump..." and "Killing children". The backup and butc
processes were still running then, so I killed them off. After this, I
moved the logs by hand from /usr/tmp to /afs/sipb/project/newdump/last.
Also, it seems that the last two weeks' backups (6/22 and 6/29) were
both "dump level '/full_1'" (i.e., tape 1 was used twice in a row).
It's probably useful both to check what tape was used the previous
week (e.g.,
zcat /afs/sipb/project/newdump/last/backup.yymmdd.Z | grep full
for the previous weeks' yymmdd), and (of course) to label the tape
that you do use.
