Well, it *was* working okay.  I tried all of these things.  Anyway, if
you really have to, you can grab the bad tty with a telnet connection,
and then rkinit and rlogin will work.  There must be something wrong
with one of the devices; maybe one of them is on a bad block or
something.  That's just a guess.  Now it's connecting me to /dev/pts/9
when I log in using this method.  Something is definitely amiss.
