I set Charon up to function as lnf.mit.edu. Actions:
- Attached the "lnf" filesystem as root.
- Added 24 lines to Charon:/etc/passwd, for the new "accounts".
(All have /dev/null or some such as the shell, and uid 60001.)
- Sent mail to netreq for the lnf alias to be changed to Charon.
To be done:
- The lnf locker should be either copied local or attached
automatically. It doesn't take much (220k) space -- should we
just move it to Charon?
- If the number of entries gets much larger (say, 50-100) it will
begin to have a big impact on the size of the passwd file. Is
an alternate fingerd (of which we have several around) an
acceptable contingency?
I also started to phase Charon in as the SIPB syslog collector:
- Changed /etc/syslog.conf on the AFS servers, to send syslogs to
Charon, rather than syslogger or wslogger. (Whether this
works on the RS/6000, I have no idea. I'll find out...)
The syslog.conf on Charon is more complicated than any others I've
seen on Athena, so I'd like to see that nobody is getting hosed before
going any further.
I welcome your comments...
