It has been observed by people doing sipb cell backups that it is not
possible to re-kinit and aklog in the middle of a dump and have it
DTRT. However, athena cell admins have been able to do this (at least
under sunos). I would like to attempt upgrading the backup and butc
that sipb uses to see if they solve this problem. Specifically I
propose doing the following:
mv /afs/sipb/project/newdump/rs_aix32{,.old}
mv /afs/sipb/project/newdump/pmax_ul4{,.old}
mkdir /afs/sipb/project/newdump/pmax_ul4
cp -p /mit/opssrc/afs.33a/pmax_ul4/dest/etc{backup,butc} /afs/sipb/project/newdump/pmax_ul4
Assuming we do this, we should test restores off of the first set of
tapes we dump wit the new software.
Assuming no one objects I'll do this at some point in the next week.
On a vaguely related note, does anyone object to my nuking the two
copies of hodge:/usr/afs/backup in project.newdump and replacing them
with a new one? Is this something we should be doing regularly?
