Well, I (with the help of Jonathan; thanks!) did a successful backup
of the SIPB AFS Cell yesterday! The backup took about 6 hours to
complete (I'm guessing here). The instructions have been updated to
explain what I did and how I did it! (Read the HOWTO-BACKUP file).
We are now using a new set of tapes. (Currently only two tapes are
labeled; I'll label 6 more tapes as soon as I can). The tapes are (or
will be ;-) labeled sipb.full_N.M where N=={1,2,3,4} and M=={1,2}.
Currently, the backup fills just slightly more than one full tape.
This means that we can add a few more gigabytes of backed-up data to
the cell before we will need to add third tapes to the tapesets. The
backup process will automatically add the tapes when it is necessary,
so no one should have to worry about it.
This also means that you *cannot* use the perl script to do the
backup. It will not work properly, and will possibly cause you to
overwrite data. I suggest that you not use it (until it gets
re-written to DTRT). If you want to fix the perl script, go ahead!
If anyone has any questions, please ask!
Enjoy!
