I backed up a number of the user volumes in the sipb cell to tape. As
we (I hope) all know, the sipb cell hasn't been fully backed up in
well over a month, and I figured that the user directories would be
the ones most likely to have irreplacable data. I haven't yet had time
to try to get a tape drive working on hodge, or to temporarily
configure the entire afs backup software for use on rosebud (e.g.,
splitting things into ten separate tapes worth of volumes).
Instead, I took a bunch of volumes off one of the disks (rosebud b),
and used that as a place to temporarily store dump files of the user
volumes. The collection of dump files was then written to tape as a
single tar archive. I arbitrarily picked these criteria for deciding
which user volumes to back up: (1) disk usage of RW and BK volumes was
different, suggesting that the volume was being used, (2) "gratuitous"
guest accounts weren't included, (3) user volumes much bigger than
normal (i.e., > 40 Mb) weren't included since they didn't fit.
Anyway, these are the volumes backed up:
abbe amgreene bert blubaron buglady cheshire cjsmith ckclark dcctdw
dougie fastcart finagler fxzane gamadrid ghudson hga jsl jtidwell
jtkohl kerr klee leira len18 marthag mcmullan mhbraun mkgray nlgilman
nocturne plj pschleck rjbarbal rk rlcarr rls sekullbe shabby simsong
sli slippery sorokin tkoenig tlyu tron wes yandros yoav
for a total of 280 Mb. The backup volumes for these were (obviously)
updated, but other backup volumes weren't. The dump files have been
deleted. This makes disk utilization very unbalanced right now:

but it might be useful to leave it that way for a few days, in case
one of us finds time to use it for other volume dumps (e.g., project).
