* DEAD MAN LIVES!

Melvin Walkin, the accountant who was reported Wednesday as having
committed suicide, has been found alive and well. This newspaper
reported that he had jumped from a warehouse, but police now confirm
that he was only identified at the time by the circumstancial evidence
of the suicide note and the wallet found on the body. The injuries to
the dead man's head prevented positive identification of who was found
that morning.

Mr. Walkin told reporters he awoke a few days ago with a bump on his
head and his wallet missing. When he found out today that he was
thought dead, he thought it best to "come out and remind people I'm
still alive." When asked for his thoughts on possible reasons for the
incident, he said he was wondering about that himself, and that "you'd
think that they'd either forcibly keep me out of circulation or let me
in on this great plan of theirs."

* DULAC IN NEGOTIATIONS TO END STRIKE

Today Jefferson Parish Sheriff Reginald Dulac came out strongly in
favor of a friendly end to the strike, and further announced that he
was in negotiations with the Teamsters Union in order to find some way
to end the strike amicably. As an opening gesture, Dulac, James
Michael Jerrison, Sr. and others have made contributions towards
replenishing the Union's plundered pension fund.

As this issue is going to presses, rumors about these talks are
flying. Numerous sources claim the strike is over, but the one source
that could be contacted on such short notice, Phillip Morris-
Abercrombie, stated that the end of the strike seemed very near, but
at the moment there was at least one holdout, as of 11:45 P.M. More
details are forthcoming.

* SPORTS SECTION

The weekly Saturday night Skeet Shooting competition at the dams took
place tonight, and is still taking place. As per tradition, the
competition took place with no scorekeeping system in place, and, as
usual, "everybody wins."
