Note to scientists. If you do not have the science skill, read no further:

It is possible to work downward on tech. trees. It is only possible
if you have all boxes but one in a particular set filled in. For example.
If you have the following section of a tree:
				YX
			       / | \
			      XX XY XZ

And you have knowledge that YX=100, XX=10, XY=50, then you may use that
knowledge to find that XZ=100-10-50=40. Making this subtraction is done in the
same way as making an addition to move upward, and requires the same amount of
research time. You may only make the subtraction if you have all but one of the
numbers below a specific box (i.e. if you knew only YX and XX, you could not
find XY or XZ).

Related to this, as most of you already know, you can teach another
scientist a number from any part of the tech tree, in the normal ten minutes.
There is no need to trade only information at the bottom of the tree. It is,
however, necessary to have the entire tree filled in in order to gain a
blueprint for the technology at the top of the tree.
