"The effort is being greatly aided by cooperation between the Russians and us. We've exchanged some technical information allow both of us to perform the work more rapidly." When asked if this information exachange jeopardizes the missiles that we still posses, Finn said that he had no worries on that account. Tensions Ease Diplomatic exchnages between Russia and the USA has toned down considerably during the past few days. Although both sides still accuse the other of jumping the gun and firing their missiles too quickly, there is now some talk about establishing better communications to ensure that this sort of near catastrophe does not occur again. Department of Defense Replaces Representative Pentagon sources indicated today that William Throckmorton will not be acting as liason between the Department of Defense and MIT during the current crisis. Whitney Nieumorton will be stepping in to handle the complicated negotiations. Throckmorton had to withdraw from the role due to the unexpected labor of his wife. Nieumorton is expected to reach Cambridge later this evening. Defense Stocks Boom Following rumors that the Department of Defense plans to replace most of the missiles launched last week, stocks of a number of high tech weapon suppliers have shot up. Analysts estimate over $2 billion in new contracts will have to be passed out to replace the weapons. ---------========== Local ==========--------- Transparent Scrap Metal The mystery art-bomber struck again last night, this time destroying the much-loved "Transparent Horizons." About 11:50 last night students and military personnel in the area heard a bang, followed by a screeching noise and a loud clatter. Those who investigated discovered a "twisted maze of metal scraps, all alike," where the sculputure once stood. The military is continuing to investigate these mysterious explosions. LaVerde's Stocks Dwindle Though there is no danger of food supplies running out, LaVerde's experienced a sudden run on condoms. "Completely gone, never seen anything like it!" was how the manager described the situation. "We usually have higher sales this weekend, but we had stocked up expecting that anyway." MIT Offers Temporary Lab Supply Requisition Forms In a effort to keep research projects going in the face of the recent looting, MIT is offerring temporary lab supply services through organized trade of material. The appropriate form is available via electronic means in /mit/teg/Public/Eit. There will also be hardcopies in the lounge. Please fill out these forms and turn them in to any secretary. The MIT Administration hopes that this will help with the confusion and delays in projects caused by the military occupation and the looting. MIT Corporation Meets There will be a meeting of the MIT Corporation on Monday evening. Anyone who would like to speak to the members of the Corporation or put an item on the agenda should contact Deirdre Spring, Dr. Stone's secretary by noon on Monday. Student Mugged Martin Martin, an MIT student, was found early this morning bound in a closet in Building 33. Private Dumas and Jack Palence found him in a janitorial closet around 2am. Martin had been shot once in each limb and had been bound with duct tape. Martin was taken to the medical center where he was in guarded but stable condition. Due to his condition, Martin was not able to make a statement to the press. Cambridge Exchanges Flooded Local telephone operators have been flooded with calls from distraught parents and other relatives, seeking news of the situation on campus. There is still no communication with anyone in the sealed off area, although military briefers have repeatedly told people that no one is in danger and everything is under control. The military occupation has been the hottest topic in the Cambridge coffee shops. In an entrepreneurial display, one resident has started selling t-shirts that read, "I tried to break through the military blockade but all I got was this t-shirt." One Cambridge City Councilman said, "This is the sort of thing we were afraid of. First they want to construct new buildings, then they want to remove homeless shelters, then they put a military base in the middle of our city. The good people of Cambridge will not let the MIT Corporation get away with this. And we're going to investiage rumors that the Corporation started the crisis in the first place as an excuse to move the troops in!" ---------========== Non-News ==========--------- The Charles River monster was not seen today trying to buy extra large glow-in-the-water condoms at LaVerde's. ---------========== CLASSIFIEDS ==========--------- SWM is searching for SF. 28, software engineer, friendly, gentleman. It was actually a student attired like the General. The Reamer aplogizes for any confusion, but hopes the Gentle Reader will understand that in the rush to print everything and anything as soon as possible, mistakes are sometimes made.
