As part of my work here on the "outbound" side of technical marketing for
multithreaded technologies, I do my best to keep up on the kind of issues
people have with MT. Both the POSIX-based threads, and the non-POSIX (NT &
OS/2).

I'm not trying to debug your programs here (although that does happen),
but rather find out what aspects of the libraries you especially like, or
counter-wise, find problematic. By finding out what folks are doing, and
what they need/want, I can better advise our own engineering dept, AND I can
incorporate their learned opinions into the threads FAQ.

I find very often that folks *think* they have an unsolvable problem, when
the truth is that they just need to look at it in a different light (I'm one
of the guilty here). So if you're struggling with something, I'd like to
know. (Who knows? It may have already been solved!)

FYI:

The FAQ is on the threads WWW page:
http://www.sun.com/sunsoft/Developer-products/sig/threads/
This page contains EVERYTHING we publically know about MT. (If you have
something to add, let me know that too!) Currently, IBM is the only other
company to have anything on MT (hint, hint!).

The "Threads Primer" is to be in print this July. Authors Dan Berg &
yours truly (see WWW).

A newsgroup, Comp.Threads (or something similar), is in the making and
should be voted on soon.
