I sent this to OLC, and have since learned that OS-BS will not boot
Dos or win95 if they are on a different physical drive than the boot
loader is on. LILO, however, will accomplish this. But, I can't
install any form of Linux... I've tried RedHat and Slackware with just
about every possible root/boot disk combination and none of them have
worked.
I have a new computer:
p133
Genuine SB16 sound and CD-Rom system
48 mgs RAM
1.6 Gig Conner Drive with WIn95
1.2 Gig Western Digital with Dos 6.22 and NetBSD
--both are IDE
On an aside...
I went to swap-fest and bought a few ethernet cards (the one I
am using now is a borrowed NE2000 clone) :
$3 Novell NE2000 TPlus (has Microdyne sticker) ... Lights do not
flash when connected. Comtree clone software sees it, but can't
configure it. It sees at IRQ 10, PORT 300-33F.
A COMPAQ Ethernet 16TP Controller. In box, unopened with
software. Will Linux or NetBSD be able to use this?

Subject: Your OLC question about "linux-netbsd"
- --------
Hi! Sorry we couldn't answer your question before you logged out. You
asked:
>> I am trying to install a multi-boot configuration for Dos 6.22, Win95 and netbsd. Win95 is located on a seperate hard drive than Netbsd and Dos 6.22 I would like the boot options of booting from any of the above OSs without physcally swapping the drives. I have tried OS-BS and bootinst without luck on the second hard drive....
I do the following simply by using a boot disk for netbsd and using the
standard dos 6.222/Win95 boot options. In order to use OS_BS or
bootinst, you probably need to install them onto the first drive (the
master one on which the master boot record is located). However, doing
this would probably cause the Dos/Win 95 boot procedure to run into
problems. (it would at least make the setup somewhat more complicated)
Unfortunately, I do not know enough about the Win95 boot loader to
determine if there is an easy way to point it to the second drive in
order to load netbsd. For a better answer to this question, you may have
more luck contacting the netbsd-help@mit.edu mailing list. More of the
people who support netbsd at mit read that mailing list than the olc
queue.
I should point out that i have used os-bs with netbsd and
dos/Windows 3.1 without a problem.
Since I feel that you may need some more help with this, I am going to
leave your question in the queue. But, when you login, please send us a
message detailing what problems you still might have, or type done at
the OLC> prompt if you have no further questions.
Thank you for using OLC!
