Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I fixed my previous problem now. I think it's
because of the incorrect procedures written in the WWW homepage. After I
printed out the documentation from the install disks, I already succeed in
installing NetBSD and setting up my network. But then, I can't install the
X-Window, and destroies some settings which forced me to install all over again
. The problem is as follows:
After I rebooted and my network wors properly, I tried to install Athena soft-
ware by FTPing the Athena installation script from sipb.mit.edu:
cd /tmp
ftp 18.181.0.24
..
cd installkits/i386_nbsd1
get i386-netbsd-athena-insall.sh
..
sh i386-netbsd-athena-install.sh
...
==so far, everything is fine now. After I have done the above Athena installa-
tion, I tried to get X working by creating "/etc/XF86Config" and a symlink
"etc/X" pointint to an X server in /usr/X11/bin.. but I can't find such direc-
tory!!, and from the document, I should read "/usr/X11/lib/X11/doc/README.Config"
to see how to make the configuration file, but I can't find such directory!!
So, now, I don't know what to do further, then I rebooted to see whether it
works. But then the following messages appeared 4 times:
"afs lost contact with volume location server 18......"
and after about 10 mins, it excuted "gettime", which also took about 5 mins,
and failed. Then, "login:" appeared, but computer can't recognize my keyboard
anymore(when I press "l", it did not appear "l"..), therefore, I can't login,
So, I am forced to install it all over again.....
Could you tell me what happened? What should I do to make X run on my
machine? So far, if I did not install Athena software, it works(I can telnet..
ftp...), but after I install Athena software, I am stuck, and have to install
all over again. Thanks.
I-Lin
