when I said 'at all', I meant all of X. :) No X application will
respond to the number pad keys w/num-lock or w/o num-lock.

for example, I should be able to use my numb-pad to enter numbers in
emacs right now, but I can't. Only the gray keys on number-pad seems
to work (/, *, +, /, Enter).

They all work when I am in a tty session.
