Damn.  For some reason it didn't work for me as non-root awhile back
(when I was initially configuring my amd/amq setup)--but now it does!
There was probably a (now-fixed) configuration glitch present at that
time....

So...I stand 100% corrected on my point regarding the requirement for
amq to be suid root to umount local device-based filesystems.  Thanks!
