Although I can't help you with the device problem, I can confirm from my
Slackware 7.0 system that your major and minor numbers are correct.
I'm using a Seagate NS8 SCSI tape drive at /dev/st0 with an Adaptec 29160
controller with no problems. Have you tried compiling support for the
Adaptec AIC78xx and SCSI tape into the kernel instead of loading it as a
module?
