I found with my 2940U at home (as well as my 2940 at work) I needed to use
the aic7xxx images in the update area of RedHat. As the instructions for
those images state, after completing the installation you MUST reboot from
the install floppy again (using the HD as root) and copy the vmlinuz from
the floppy into /boot on the HD (then re-run LILO) to make things work.

Hope this helps...

Hi. I'm trying to run the 2.0.18 kernel, and having boot problems with a
2940UW scsi controller. The 2.0.10 kernel ran w/no problems, and the RedHat
Colgate install disk also ran w/no problems, which I think is a 2.0.18 kernel.
However, the installed .18 kernel fails, as follows:

scsi: 0 hosts scsi: detected total
Partition check:
VFS: Cannot open root device 08:01
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 08:01

Any ideas what would cause this?
