Hi.
I'm thinking about getting a CD-Writer, and would like to know if
anyone has any recommendations on drives and/or SCSI adaptors. I
haven't been able to find out much Linux specific info. There's a
mini-howto, documenting someone's attempts to get a specific writer to
work, but no general information about what works and what doesn't.
The documentation for cdwrite implies that certain common drives are
supported (eg, Philips CDD-52x, Yamaha CDR10x, HP 4020i). However, most
of these drives are either discontinued or too expensive. Does anyone
know if any of the following drives will work under Linux?
DynaTek CDM-240
DyneTek CDM-400
Philips CDD-2000
Plasmon CDR-4240
JVC XR-W2010
Panasonic LK-MW602B PK
Ricoh 1420c
Also, are there any SCSI adaptors that are particularly suited to this
task (or any to be avoided?). I currently have 3, although none of them
have yet been persuaded to work!
I have an Adaptec 1542B, a Mountain card that came with my tape drive
(apparently it's a so called "paddle" card, not a full SCSI adaptor, if
that means anything to anyone), and an ancient unbranded ISA card that
I picked up at a junk store (for $1.50 :-)
I'm considering getting a PCI SCSI adaptor, but the options available
in my price range are NCR 53C810, NCR 53C85 UW DC-390F, and AMD AM5
3c974 DC-390, none of which appear to be definitely supported under
Linux (the 53C810 appears to have some support -- maybe I'm just
reading an old version of the HOWTO?). The DC-390 above was my best
approximation to something I was given over the phone. It could be the
BT-390 referred to in the SCSI-HOWTO. My motherboard has suitable SCSI
support to allow SCSI boots on adaptors that don't support it directly.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Tet
