Your patch still doesn't work for me with the aic7xxx loadad by kerneld
at boottime. I get GPFs when kerneld tries to insmod the driver.

My setup is:
- GA-586DX dual pentium motherboard (with 2xP100) and
  adaptec 2940UW on board.
- / on the scsi harddisc connected to the adaptec
- devicedriver loaded by kerneld on an 'initial ramdisk'
- all scsi stuff is compiled as a module
- everything works when the adaptec driver and the neccessary scsi
components are compiled into the kernel.
