I had to enable the parameter about enable all LUN's or whatever that
was, when compiling the kernel. I don't know if that will be your
problem, but I had a similar problem, where the kernel saw the device,
but then I couldn't use it. With a Toshiba CD Rom Drive, by the way.
Someone else on perhaps the Debian list alerted me, and he also had a
Toshiba drive.
