hello,
i'm having some trouble finding answers to few questions i have
about getting an HP35470A to work properly. hope someone can help me.
system info:
Linux, Red Hat 6.1
aha152x controller (set aha152x=0x130,10,7,1,1)
aha1542 controller (set aha1542=0x330)
(this setting allows the scsi cards to work and
i have attached a cdrom that works fine on this)
no other scsi devices on chain.
i have a HP 35470A 4mm DAT tape unit. i read at HP.com
that these units are set to terminate automatically, right?
the documentation on this is vague, what they actually say is
newer drives are not terminated, but older drives like the
35470A & 35480A are. somewhere else they suggest putting this
drive as the last device on the chain or have it be the only
device on the scsi card. i haven't found any solid info on how
this unit can set or unset internal termination, if at all.
another question with that would be, if it is set to terminate,
then i
don't know if i should use the "term power" with the adaptec
aha152x card and/or the aha1542 card. i have two of these
dats and have been trying to get them to work with both cards.
i can load the drivers,
( by $insmod aha1542 aha1542=0x330 )
rewind, but no luck getting them to write and then read back
without errors. this is the first time i've played with dat on linux.
the cables work with hdd's and cdroms. i have two cables, they are
both about 20 inches. one has only one connection, the other has two.
each dat is the last and only device on the cable. set to ID2.
if they are not terminated, and i can't set it intenally - how
would i terminate it when it's the only device on the chain? is
there a terminator that attaches to internal ribbon cables? is
there different kinds, which one to get? ie active, passive?
also, should i enable or disable parity?
the jumpers on the bottem are are set to what HP defines as
common for PC's, all on except #3 dip.
i have also tried a few other combinations using a table found at
ANDATACO's web site.
if anyone has these dats and cards and has them working i would
love to know how you have them configured, if that is possible.
any directions to documentation on these topics would be
appreciated also.
also, on the aha1542 the bootprompt-HOWTO shows options for
"buson", "busoff", & "dmaspeed". do i need to set these?
if so what is the exact syntax. i tried
aha1542=0x330,11us on,4us off,5
i don't think that worked.
thank you,
