I have a 4/8GB archive/seagate/connor DAT drive connected to a 53c875
based controller and it seems to work fine except for the erase
command. The drive seems to hang there. The erase feature works
fine under OS/2 and NT, so I don't think it's the drive.

How do you enable compression using a device special file? i.e.
How do I make a /dev/st0c?

I don't know about the UK, but at some computer flea markets there
are DDS2s floating around for $35-$75. That's how I got mine. I've
also seen some old 8mm drives as well. Usually they've been the
2.5 GB sized ones.

I would really like to have a DDS3 though. I haven't seen any
of those, but they seem to be about $600 new, which isn't too
bad relatively speaking of course.

I also have a archive anaconda that works great. It is an old
large format QIC drive. You could check out the SLR drives, the
smaller format ones are somewhat compatible with the old tapes
and are in the $600 range also IIRC. The tapes are kind of
expensive though.

Lastly I've seen some reasonable travan drives in the 10-20GB
range but the tapes are around $75. I've no experience with
those.
