I'm using this card. Currently with 2.2.6. It worked also with 2.2.[012]
and 2.0.3[46] and probably with every kernel after 2.0.34.

# cd /usr/src/linux
# make menuconfig
With kernel 2.2.x
 SCSI support --> SCSI low-lever drivers -->
   <*> NCR53C8XX SCSI support
    or
   <*> SYM53C8XX SCSI support
    Here I use:
   (8)   default tagged command queue depth
   (32)   maximum number of queued commands
   (40)   synchronous transfers frequency in MHz
    and nothing else for these driver.

with kernel 2.0.36 use:
   <*> NCR53C8XX SCSI support
